Golden Stories of Umar Ibn Al-Khattab (RA) is a full-color biography by Abdul Malik Mujahid, published by Darussalam, presenting the life of the second Caliph of Islam through stand-alone stories rather than a single continuous narrative. Each story can be read independently, making it easy to pick up and read a chapter at a time.

About This Book

Rather than following a strict chronology, the book is built from individual episodes from Umar's (RA) life, each illustrating a particular aspect of his faith, wisdom, justice, or leadership. That stand-alone structure means a reader can start anywhere in the book and still take a complete lesson from each story, rather than needing to read start to finish. The book is printed in full colour throughout.

About Umar Ibn Al-Khattab (RA)

Umar Ibn Al-Khattab (RA) was the second Caliph of Islam, succeeding Abu Bakr As-Siddeeq (RA), and one of the ten companions promised Paradise. His caliphate (13–23 AH / 634–644 CE) saw the rapid expansion of the Islamic state and the introduction of key institutions of governance, and he is especially remembered in Islamic tradition for his strict personal justice, humility despite his authority, and closeness to the Prophet ﷺ, whose daughter Hafsah (RA) he was father-in-law to.

About the Author

Abdul Malik Mujahid is the author of Darussalam's wider "Golden Stories" series, which also includes Golden Stories of Abu Bakr As-Siddeeq and Golden Stories of Umar Ibn Abdul Azeez, as well as the illustrated Golden Seerah. His books combine narrative storytelling with scholarly sourcing, aimed at making Islamic history accessible without losing authenticity.

What You'll Find Inside

The stories cover key moments and qualities associated with Umar (RA): his conversion to Islam, his role as advisor to the Prophet ﷺ and later to Abu Bakr (RA), and the wisdom behind decisions that shaped the early Islamic state. Well-known episodes from his life fit this pattern — his insistence on holding rulers accountable, captured in his own words that a ruler should call himself to account before he is called to account by others; his practice of walking through Madinah at night to check on the welfare of ordinary people rather than relying only on reports; and his reputation for even-handed justice towards non-Muslim subjects under his rule, guaranteeing their safety and property under formal treaties. Alongside these, the book highlights his personal simplicity and refusal of luxury despite presiding over a rapidly expanding treasury and empire.
