He earned the title "As-Siddeeq" (the Truthful) for immediately affirming the Prophet's ﷺ account of the Isra and Mi'raj (the Night Journey) when others doubted it. On the Prophet's ﷺ death in 11 AH (632 CE), he was chosen as the first Caliph of Islam.

His Caliphate and Legacy

Abu Bakr (RA) ruled for roughly two years (11–13 AH / 632–634 CE), a short but pivotal caliphate. Its central challenge was widespread apostasy and rebellion across Arabia in the wake of the Prophet's ﷺ death, including tribes refusing to pay zakat and false claimants to prophethood. Abu Bakr took a firm stance in response, and the resulting Ridda wars secured the unity of the early Muslim state. His caliphate is also remembered for commissioning the first formal compilation of the Qur'an into a single written collection (the Suhuf), undertaken by Zayd ibn Thabit after the Battle of Yamama, which later served as the basis for the standardised Uthmanic codex still used today.
